On May 22nd, ITP received visit from Professor Eigenberger, vice president of DFG, Dr. Kruessmann Ingrid, director of Asian affairs, Mr. Volker Mosbrugger, professor of Tubingen University, German, and Mr. Zhao Miaogen, deputy director of Sino-German Science Center of DFG. Li Yichu, director of Europe Division of the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, and Zhou Shaoping, director of Geophysics Division of the Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and the Environment came to ITP to receive the German guests. Director Yao Tandong, and deputy director Liu Xiaohan attended the conversazione.
Director Yao Tandong extended warm welcome to DFG delegation, and introduced to Mr. Eigenberger and his company the infrastructure, scientific objectives, development strategies, teams construction, and late scientific activities. Director Li Zhiyi and Zhou Shaoping also expressed heartfelt welcome to the visit of DFG on behalf of the Bureau of International Cooperation and the Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and the Environment, and pointed out that ITP must set its foot on international scientific foreland, enhance relation with international scientific organization, make full use of German’s superior resources in Tibetan Plateau research, and conduct Tibetan Plateau research through cooperation. Mr. Eigenberger reviewed the history of cooperation between DFG and CAS, and expressed his wish to promote Sino-Germany cooperation by the opportunity of joint construction ITP. Ms. Kruessmann Ingrid explained funding policies of DFG, and professor Mosbrugger introduced key fields in Tibetan Plateau research for future cooperation. The objective of this visit is to conduct further consultation on joint construction of ITP by CAS and DFG, and clarify details of signing the memorandum with CAS.
The two sides finally reached a consensus on the memorandum of understanding concerning jointly establishing the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research. The memorandum will be signed by Vice President of CAS Prof. Chen Zhu and Prof. Eigenberger on behalf of the two sides respectively.
