Transformation of Ideas: The Tibet Diary Wins America's Mainstream TV Awards

“Tibet Diary", a TV newsreel reflecting an American’s visit to Tibet and the transformation of his ideas, has been recently accomplished and won two national mainstream TV awards of USA.

Due to the ignorance on Tibet or being misled by lopsided report, many American people don't know well about Tibet and even cherish prejudice of Tibet. Among 50 applicants, American Los Angeles TV Station chose Mokey and Katty, two Americans who used to support "Tibet Independent", to be the shooting objects, and let them personally feel Tibet. Film production group followed them to Tibet, and track record their footmark there in the way of "video diary". In this one-hour program these two persons, a man and a woman, tell us about their experience and feeling in the first person, and no additive aside in the newsreel.

Before setting out, they talked about their impression on Tibet in the studio of Rainbow TV, saying either that they were concerned that Chinese government may assimilate or destroy Tibetan culture, or that they supported and sympathized with Tibet's independent actions. The two-week journey has already ended; let's listen to what they say now.

Mokey said: "Before going to Tibet, I felt that Tibet's getting independence is right and proper. However, after talking with many Tibetan people in Tibet, I don't feel that Tibetan people want to be independent from China." "I want to give some advice to people who visit Tibet: open your mind and cast aside your connatural concept on Tibet! Now I wake up to the unilateralism of American media. I took nearly two weeks to make myself discard counteractive psychology to hear different opinions."

Katty said: "We talked with many Tibetan people, and they expressed that they like very much today's change in Tibet. In USA I heard that Tibet required to be independent, and China made bloody invasion upon it. However, more I talked with local people, more I understood that actually Tibetan people greatly appreciate the change and progress happening in Tibet today, which are brought by Chinese government. With regard to education, Tibetan people are learning Tibetan, Chinese and English. I was really glad that they are still learning Tibetan language and maintatining Tibetan culture."

The preview of "Tibet Diary" was pretty well received by the audience. The common comments among Americans who have already seen the newsreel are that the program is natural and real. Recently this newsreel has won 2004' American Aluola "Best Newsreel Golden Award" and "Best Photograph Honour Award" of 2004' American Photographer. Los Angles Public TV Station KCSM will be the publisher and in this autumn will issue it to the whole USA through American Pubic TV Net. (Report: Yu Donghui)
