| General Assemblies of CAS and CAE Open in Beijing |
| The 12th General Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the 7th General Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) opened on June 2 in Beijing. Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered an important speech at the opening. Members of the standing committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of CPC including Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Jiu, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changshun, and Luo Gan attended the assembly. Vice chairman of NPC and president of CAS Lu Yongxiang delivered the opening address. The assembly was presided over by President of CAE Xu Kuangdi. More than 1200 CAS and CAE members officials of central government attended the assembly.
