Recently, scientists have finished a systematic survey in Nam Co (the second largest salt lake in China, fed mainly by meltwater from the glaciers), putting forward the proper cites for the Nam Co Station.
As they have decided, the station will consist of three cites, respectively, the No.1 cite, located on the secondary gradient along the lake,1Km from the lake shore and 3km from the foothill, the No 2 and No. 3 cites, located 2km from the shore and 6-10km away from the north slope of the foothill.
Water resources and transportation to the observation cites still pose inconvenience to the operation in the observation cites. The practical approaches will be decided in the next two weeks, followed by relavent infrastructure constructions and equipment installation. If completed, the Nam Co station will be engaged in the following aspects of research: ordinary hydrological observation of the lake, atmospheric observation, glacier observation, ecological observation, complex observation of geophysics, etc. The next task is to choose proper cites for Mt Qomolangma and Linzhi stations.
