In the 1.3 billion years BP.,Qomolangma used to surpass 12,000m in height," geologist in the Fourth Complex Expedition to Qomolangma(Mt. Everest)told reporters, after sampling rocks from the mountain and conducting primary analysis of them.
Prof. Ding Lin, chief scientist in the geological group of this expedition and professor in ITP explained that their discovery of some stretched or extended layers on Qomolangma confirmed the existence of faults on its north slope, which locates right on the faults.
Ding went on to introduce their observation and primary calibration, which indicated that the stretching rate of certain layers in Qomolangma reached ~150%. And the stretching was expected to take place about 1.3 billion years before present.
Prof Ding added that the thrust of Indian Plate to Asian Plate caused the uplifting of Qomolangma about 6.5 billion years B.P. According to their discovery and analysis of those newly found proofs on the mountain, they believed that in about 1.3 billion years BP, Qomolangma reached its climax. Under the gravity and its own weight, the mountain began to fault and crash down a bit until the completion of crustal movement, when present Qomolangma came into being.
