The scientific expedition was going on smoothly in Mt Qomolangma, with some fruitful results yielded from the research carried out there. Prof. Liu Jingshi reported the news to ITP recently.
Prof. Liu is in charge of hydrological monitoring and observation of the glaciers in this expedition. In spite of all difficulties of working in the glacier melt river, he and his colleagues finally succeeded in building up for hydrological observation on the plateau a bridge, 12m in length and consisting of eight 6-meter long iron tubes. Equipped with instrument to monitor the velocity of flow and water level, the establishment of the bridge will help in the calculation of the river runoff in this alpine region.
