Thanks to the push of Prof. Lu Yongxiang, President of CAS, to the memorandum between CAS and DFG to join hands in the establishment of ITP, the first session of Sino-Germany Workshop was held successfully in Tibet Hotel, Beijing in August, 2004, laying a solid foundation for the further cooperation between Chinese and German scientists.
The visit of Dr. Winnacker, President of DFG, to CAS this April and his meeting with some ITP professors had confirmed his schedule of presiding over the second session of Sino-Germany Workshop this August.
So far, the joint workshop has received unstinting support from DFG, Bureau of International Cooperation (BIC) of CAS and Sino-Germany center of NSFC, among which BIC has passed the application of the conferences in Lhasa. What’s more, concrete schedule for the workshop has primarily agreed upon, namely opening ceremony of the workshop in Sino-Germany Center of NSFC in Beijing on August 14th, departure for Lhasa on August 15th, symposium and detailed discussion for collaboration from August 16th to 18th, and field expedition to the Plateau from August 19th.
15 German and 25 Chinese scientists have registered to participate in this workshop. The organizers of the meeting are still working hard to draw more financial support and collect information of every participant scientist for relevant procedures.
