On June 12, 2005, the Beijing Airport welcomed the return of the last group of crew members in the scientific expedition to Mt. Everest(Mt. Qomolangma), led by Prof. Kang Shichang, thus signified the accomplishment of this historical expedition.
To honor their courage and great performance during the expedition, CAS Academician Prof. Zheng Du and Feng Xuehua, people in charge of the scientific activity, picked these crew members up in the airport.
This expedition is credited to have covered the largest area on the plateau for sampling, with a large number of participants and scientific categorization of subjects. Many samples have been collected at various altitudes, even above 7200 m in elevation, waiting for further studies.
