Comprehensive Observation and Research Station on Qomolangma(CORSQ), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the first observation station of this kind has been completed since August 28, 2005, and is ready for normal operation. Director of the station, also professor in ITP, Prof. Ma Yaoming told the news to the institute.
Equipped with solar power system of 10 KW, dwelling and observation rooms, dining rooms, fresh water and other essential facilities, the CORSQ was designed to hold 15-20 research staff at a time. The logistics there is also on its way, with five work staff taking charge respectively of administration, observation, cooking, transportation, interpretation, sanitary and security.
In order to facilitate the scientific work in the Qomolangma region, CAS invested a large amount of advanced equipment in the station. Among them, there is a five-store, forty-meter boundary layer meteorological tower, wind speed profiler, radioactive observation system and an observation system for soil temperature and humidity. Apart from those, the station is also equipped with mobile observation facilities, such as GPS radio-sondage system, an ultrasonic wind speed system, CO2/H2O open-circuit analyzer, which can be operated in the 5200-meter-high base camp, or even higher places. Observation systems for the study of atmosphere and ground environmental process, as well as those for geophysical process study have also been facilitated there.
