Nam Co Interdisciplinary and Monitoring Station, CAS, ready for operation July last year, has drawn attention and support worldwide ever since. In August last year, Sino-German joint filed work was carried out around the lake, ending up with numerous cooperation projects under way at present. These projects between Chinese and German scientists involved research on pollens, water body, vegetation, and hydrogen isotopic study in the soil. As a platform offering sound logistics for scientific research, it also attracted Canadian scientific staff, who worked together with Chinese ones to succeed in study POPs and mercury around the lake.
On August 7-8, 2006, Director of the AERONET within NASA Dr Brent N. Holben visited the station and extended his disposition of collaborating in studying physics of atmospheric aerosols. So far, a solar photometer has been applied for a long-term fixed observation around the station.
On August 7, 2006, Nam Co Station welcomed Tang Yanhong, PhD from National Environmental Research Institute, Japan, who reached an initial Memorandum of Understanding with Chinese scientists on the station. Accordingly, Chinese and Japanese scientific staff will exchange data of meteorological and vegetation observations on the southern and northern slopes of Mt Nyqingtanggula.
Chairman Gianni Tartari of academic consultative committee for Italian Pyramid plan visited the station on August 5, 2006. He also reached an agreement with the Chinese scientists on sharing data of atmospheric and environmental observations on the plateau. Visiting scholars to each other’s side will also be witnessed once formal cooperating ties are set.
