The laboratory of Continental Collision and Plateau Uplift of the ITP held its first academic advisory committee on Dec.28, 2008 in Beijing. The aim of the meeting was to clarify the goals, research subjects and direction of future efforts of the Lab. ITP director Prof. Yao Tandong also hoped that with the guidance and suggestions of participating scientists, the Lab would be better prepared to apply for the key laboratory of the CAS in the future.
Members of the committee include such CAS academicians as professors Sun Shu, Zhong Dalai, Teng Jiwen, Yao Zhenxing, and Yao Tandong, as well as professors as Ding Lin, Chang Xu, Liu Xiaohan, Gao Xing, Gao Rui, Hou Zengqian, Zhang Jinjiang, Wang Erqi, Kong Ping, Fang Xiaomin, Zhao Junmeng, Liu Jing, and He Jiankun. Some administrative staff from the CAS and the ITP also sat in at the meeting.
Prof. Ding Lin, head of the Lab, made a work report to the committee, covering such aspects as the composition of human resources and machines, operation of the Lab and talents cultivation in concern. The meeting also witnessed several academic reports, including ‘crustal structure and geodynamics on the Tibetan Plateau’ by Prof. Zhao Junmeng, ‘Plateau uplift and geomorphology evolution on the Tibetan Plateau’ by Prof. Liu Jing, ‘inner-continental crustal transformation and dynamic simulation for the Tibetan Plateau’ by Prof. He Jiankun, and ‘constraints of basins to plateau uplift and the evolution of natural resources and environment’ by Prof. Fang Xiaomin.
