Prof. Nigel Tapper and associate Prof. Jason Beringer of School of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Monash University, visited ITP Lhasa campus during March 4-8, 2010, invited by Prof MA Yaoming, deputy director of the ITP.
They were shown around by Prof Ma in the Lhasa campus and the Qomolangma Atmospheric and Environmental Observation and Research Station (QOMOS) at Dingri, and introduced of various lab facilities, observation equipment, as well as academic achievement ITP scientific staff made in atmospheric sciences based on those field monitoring.

Prof. Tapper, also editor of International Journal of Climatology, was impressed by the facilities the ITP has been equipped with for land surface and Plateau atmospheric study. And both Australian scientists hoped to join hands with ITP staff in the study of Asia-Australia Monsoon and global climate change.

Their visit to ITP at Lhasa and QOMOS broadened each other’s understanding of respective academic areas and commonalities. Both sides believed cooperation in atmospheric and environmental study in concern would be mutually benefited.
