On the afternoon of April 10, 2014, Prof. YAO Tandong, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and TPE co-chair, called upon a meeting with the TU authorities in the TPE Kathmandu Center to discuss mutual efforts in promoting the TPE Kathmandu Center.
On knowing the existent CAS centers throughout the world, and the great potential for the Kathmandu center to become a CAS center in South Asia, the TU authorities showed great interest in helping promote the TPE Kathmandu Center and were willing to provide all necessary support.
To address CAS President Bai’s concern of locating the TPE Kathmandu center in a decent building on TU campus, Prof. Poudel, TU Register, suggested two choices: (1) an existing building on campus previously used as the Department of Economy, and (2) a new building under construction intended as office building of principals. To address CAS researchers’ accommodation request, Prof. Hira B. Maharjan, TU Vice Chancellor, introduced the existent international hostel on campus, and suggested on using that as a guest house after proper renovation and expansion.
During the meeting, Prof. Yao also invited Prof Hira and his delegation to visit Beijing. He promised to bring more CAS institutions in the meeting to widen the cooperation areas. Prof. Hira gladly accepted the invitation, and hoped that discussions of more research areas between TU and CAS institutions could lead to a long-term cooperation program between TU and University of CAS. The initial plan was for the TU delegation to visit this September.
