Sensible heat flux to be monitored in the Mt Qomolangma region

Under the auspices of the EU project “ Coordinated Asia-European long-term Observing system of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau hydro-meteorological processes and the Asian-monsoon system with Ground satellite Image data and numerical Simulations” (CEOP-AEGIS), ITP scientific staff  (represented by Prof Yaoming Ma) joined hands with German meteorologists Thomas Foken and Wolfgang Babel to select sites during July 3-4, 2009, for sensible heat flux monitoring over the Mt Qomolangma region.
The research focus for monitoring the sensible heat flux over the region involves the application of LAS (large aperture scintillometry) in the monitor and analysis of the distribution of sensible heat flux over the Mt Qomolangma region. Proper site for the LAS set-up is directly relevant to the data quality acquired. Once put into operation, the LAS will not only automatically measure and calculate the heat flux distribution over the region, but also provide ‘true value’ of ground observation to the verification of satellite remote-sensing and numerical simulation data.
