2010 academic research reviewed by LCPU


CAS Key Laboratory of Continental collision and Plateau Uplift (LCPU) recently gave a serial review of its academic research achievement in 2010 in Beijing.

Among them, its 3rd Academic Annual Meeting together with the first Academic Advisory Committee was held in Tibet Hotel, Beijing, on January 9, 2011, presided over by CAS academician Prof. SUN Shu.

In the work report by LCPU director Prof. DING Lin, accomplishment by LCPU research staff and operation status of the lab were reviewed, and New Year plan was proposed for guidance by Advisory Committee members.

ITP professors ZHAO Junmeng and HE Jiankun then took turns to report on their latest research focuses, respectively, on “The architecture of colliding tectonic plates in Tibet” and “ Application of fluid in earthquake triggering mechanism: evidence from 2008 Ms 6.4 Nima Earthquake”.

     
 Prof. CHANG Xu, deputy director of Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and Environment, CAS, offers suggetions.  Prof. YAO Zhenxing comments on the achievement of LCPU in 2010.  Prof. ZHONG Dalai advises on operation and future planning of the lab.

Professors XIAO Wenjiao and SUN Jimin from Institute of Geology and Geophysics, CAS were also invited to report on their academic engagement respectively, on the “tectonics and evolution of Tienshan” and “orogenic to basinal tectonic evolution and its environmental impacts”.

Academic exchange was finally conducted among LCPU research staff, ranging from the study of Tibetan Plateau tectonics and geology to geophysics.

Shortly afterwards, LCPU hosted an academic gathering for young research staff and students on January 15, 2011, at ITP, Beijing, to guide and encourage young scientists in the pursuing of the geological study on the Tibetan Plateau. 24 presentations were made during the gathering, offering a good opportunity for note-exchanges and new idea evaluation.
