Video defense of PhD thesis proposals jointly guided by German Universities and ITPCAS was successfully held

Video defense of PhD thesis proposals jointly guided by German Universities including Technische Universit?t Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) etc and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ITPCAS) was held during May 30th-31th, 2018. The defense adopted a combination of on site and video meeting. The main venue was in TU Braunschweig and the video meeting site was in Beijing campus of ITPCAS.
Totally 9 doctoral students from German gave their thesis proposal defense. In addition to the German advisors and Thesis Committee members, Prof. Yaoming Ma, Lide Tian, Fan Zhang, Cuo Lan and others from ITPCAS attended this event as the co-advisor and Thesis Committee members. The thesis titles included “(1) Quantification and modeling of solute matter transport during the annual cycle”, “(2) Assessment of sedimentary budgets and permafrost content with capacitive resistivity”, “(3) Catchment wide remote sensing of sediment source dynamics”, “(4) Sensitivity of soil OC storage to changes in climate and land use on the Tibetan Plateau”, “(5) Assessing Land-atmosphere heat and CO2 exchange with Eddy covariance”, “(6) Carbon translocation from glacial and terrestrial to aqueous systems”, “(7) Modeling climate change impact on water budgets using an integrated surface-subsurface approach”, “(8) Diatoms as water quality indicators” and “(9) Invertebrates and their stable isotope composition as paleohydrological proxies”. The relevant work on the above thesis topics would be supported by the Sino-German education cooperation project "Geo-ecosystem in Transition on the Tibetan Plateau (TransTiP)". The successful convening of this video defense laid the foundation for the upcoming project of TransTiP, and promoted the further cooperation between German universities and ITPCAS for the Tibet Plateau research.
