On December 13th, the Third Pole Environment (TPE) program and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully held the “Night of Third Pole Environment” side meeting in Washington DC, USA. Over 120 scientists from China, United States, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, United Kingdom, Italia, Nepal, Pakistan and other countries participated in the meeting.

Firstly, Prof. Yaoming Ma gave a talk on “Introduction of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences”. Secondly, Prof. Fahu Chen gave a presentation to introduce “The Alliance of International Science Organizations in the Belt and Road Region (ANSO)”. After that, Prof. Tandong Yao, Prof. Lonnie Thompson, Ellen Mosley-Thompson and other participants had intense discussion on Pan-Third Pole Monitoring system.

The meeting promoted international cooperation under the TPE, Pan-Third Pole Environment Change Study for a Green Silk Road (Pan-TPE), and the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research (STEP).
